If you run something we compare, you can send us your prices as data. Email hello@comparison.love with "Data" in the subject.
What we can use
- A product or plan feed. A CSV, XML or JSON file at a stable address, or an Awin product feed. For each product: its name, the price (say whether it includes VAT), the details people compare on, a link to the product, whether it is in stock or on sale, and when the feed was updated. For SIM-only plans that means the monthly price, data, minutes, texts, contract length and network. For broadband it means the price, speed, contract length and any set-up cost. For tyres it means the size, the EU label figures and the price. For energy it means unit rates, standing charges and exit fees.
- Where you serve. A list of postcodes you cover, or a file or API that says whether a postcode is covered, so we only show a plan to people who can order it. A link to your own availability checker also works for now.
- An API. It is fine if its terms let a comparison site show the results, and its limits suit a small site: a few requests a day for most things, and a few a second at the busiest for a postcode lookup.
What we need to be able to use it
- Permission in writing to show and store the data, including on a site that may earn commission. An email will do.
- Prices that are updated at least daily, and a way for us to tell when they last changed.
- Data we can read by machine. We don't scrape websites, and we respect a site's robots.txt.
How we show it
- Results are sorted by price, or by what the visitor chose to sort by. Never by commission, and nobody can pay to move up.
- Every link that earns us commission is marked "We earn commission", with a note above the list. We also list providers that don't pay us, with a plain link.
- Every figure shows where it came from and when we last checked it, and a figure that has gone out of date is flagged or hidden.
- We read your terms before any link goes live. We work through affiliate networks (Awin at the moment): if your programme is on another network, tell us which.
What we don't do
- Insurance, credit, loans, mortgages and investments. They need FCA permission that we don't have.
- Pass a visitor's postcode or answers to you. Our tools don't collect personal details, and the links don't carry them.
