What we collect, and why
- Postcodes you search for. We use them to look up council tax, energy prices, water companies, broadband and fuel prices. They're kept in your session (see below), not in links or page addresses, and we look them up in our own copy of the postcode data, so they aren't sent to anyone else.
- Session data. To remember your last search while you use the site, we store a session record: an identifier, your last search, your IP address, your browser's name and version, and when you were last active. Sessions expire after 2 hours of inactivity and are then deleted.
- Server logs. Our web server records each request (IP address, page, time and browser) to keep the site secure and working. We keep these for [retention period].
- Rate limiting. To stop automated abuse of search forms, we briefly count requests from each IP address. These counts expire after a minute.
Our lawful basis is legitimate interests: running a secure, working comparison service that you've chosen to use.
Who we share it with
No one, except our hosting provider ([hosting provider]), which stores the data on our behalf. When you follow a link to another website, that site's own privacy notice applies.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete personal data we hold about you, or object to how we use it. Contact [email address]. If you're unhappy with our answer, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
